SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 13, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman in her early 20s is in serious condition with second-degree burns on her face and shoulders, and severe smoke inhalation, after she was caught in a house fire Monday morning.

She and a man in his late 30s, the home owner, were transported to a local hospital. The man is in stable condition, according to information from the Salt Lake City Fire Department. Three other residents escaped without injury.

Firefighters were first called to the scene, at 1180 Warnock Ave., about 6:15 a.m. When they arrived, they found the front of the 2-story house engulfed in heavy smoke and flames.

The SLCPD announced Monday afternoon that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it appears it was accidental.

  1. Thank you for reporting on this house fire last Monday. Yesterday, I received the following email from a client because our company, Surety Inspection Services, had inspected that home. Kathleen consented to share her email. This incident confirmed our belief in the importance of home inspections.

    Karl,

Thank you for Inspection done in 2015.

You probably saved my life and the life of my boys. You did an inspection on a house at 1180 Warnock in Sugarhouse after we made an offer on it in October 2015. Your inspection report showed some wiring problems in the house and really bad wiring and absence of wiring in the basement among other things. The owners weren’t responsive to fixing anything or giving a discount on the house so we could so we rescinded our offer. On Monday morning, that house caught fire and suffered extensive damage. Two people were hurt; one with 2nd degree burns in serious condition.

You also did the inspection on the Taylorsville house we bought last June. Love it.

    Keep up the good work.

    Kathleen Ingleby”
