Breaking: Sandy home destroyed in early morning fire

SANDY, Utah, May 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters from multiple agencies  battled an early morning house fire in Sandy on Friday.
.
Sandy Fire Chief Bruce Cline told Gephardt Daily calls came in to emergency dispatchers about 3:30 a.m. with reports of thick smoke in the Hidden Valley Drive area.

Firefighters responding to the scene found a home at 1572 Hidden Drive engulfed in smoke and flames.

Crews attempted to enter the residence but were forced to take defensive positions after the floor collapsed into the basement.

That’s where investigators believe the fire started.

Cline said a search of the residence did not turn up any victims and it appears no one was home when the fire broke out.

35 firefighters from Sandy, South Jordan and Draper managed to knock down the two-alarm blaze, but remained on scene throughout the morning mopping up hot spots.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
