SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 14, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) -- A person of interest is in custody after at least three shots were fired near an otherwise peaceful "No Kings" demonstration early Saturday evening in downtown Salt Lake City.
"We are investigating a shooting possibly associated with the demonstration near 200 S. State St.," a Salt Lake City Police social media post says.
"We have multiple law enforcement units in the area trying to verify information."
A Gephardt Daily crew at the scene confirmed two people injured, one critically.
"We have a person of interest in custody," the SLCPD post says. "We are asking people to leave the demonstration safely and orderly."

Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall posted a reaction on social media.
"The violence we’ve seen today in Salt Lake City and elsewhere in the country is horrific—it’s just not who we are," the Mayor said. "We deserve to feel safe, especially when exercising our First Amendment rights.
"Thank you to the Salt Lake City Police Department for their quick action tonight to protect lives and support those marching peacefully. My heart is with you, SLC. We’ll get through this."
