WEST JORDAN, Jan. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The West Jordan Police Department has arrested a suspect after reports that a man followed a 5-year-old into a library public restroom and sexually assaulted the boy.

Troy Michael Sickler, 26, was booked into the Salt Lake County jail after charges were filed in the case.

The arrest came after police released surveillance images on Friday.

“Last night, detectives received multiple tips and successfully identified the male,” said a news release published just before noon Saturday by Detective J.C. Holt, West Jordan Police Department.

“He was subsequently questioned and arrested for the incident.”

Holt thanked the public for the tips and news agencies for spreading the story and images. Jim Cooper, Salt Lake County Library director, also thanked all involved.

“The county recognizes and appreciates the swift action by all to protect our children,” Cooper said in a prepared statement. “Safety at the library for our young patrons and their families is paramount to us.”

Holt’s statement said no other information will be released in the case so that integrity can be protected for any upcoming prosecution.

In April of 2015, Sickler was arrested after police said he climbed under a bathroom stall at the Salt Lake County Library in West Valley City, exposed himself, and asked a 7-year-old boy to perform a sex act, according to an arrest fact sheet issued at the time by the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy screamed for his mother, and the suspect left the scene, the arrest fact sheet states.
