VIDEO: West Valley City Hostage Standoff Comes To Peaceful End

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – AUGUST 31, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A tense, day-long hostage drama has come to a peaceful end in West Valley City.

The incident began around 7:06 a.m. with reports of a domestic argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend at a home on Peggy Lane.

A short while later, police received calls of a man with a gun in a mobile home park at 7114 W. Palomino Drive.

Police say the gun was pulled after the girlfriend’s father intervened in the argument on Peggy Lane and drove the boyfriend to his home on Palomino Drive.

The suspect in the hostage situation is Oscar Alcantara, 23,  a known gang member with a history of domestic violence.

Witnesses told police that shortly after the men arrived they began arguing and shots were fired.

Alcantara then took the father hostage and held him at gunpoint inside his mobile home for nearly seven hours.

Around 1:30 p.m. police negotiators were able to persuade Alcantara to release his hostage.

Alcantara surrendered to police about 15 minutes later.

Alcantara has been booked on charges of first degree felony kidnapping, second degree felony aggravated assault, third degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person and discharge of firearm.
