BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, Oct. 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Assistant Police Chief Dennis Vincent was airlifted Thursday to University of Utah Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery to stop bleeding on his brain after suffering a catastrophic aneurysm and stroke.
According to a Facebook post from Brigham City Police Department, Vincent collapsed Thursday morning after taking his annual physical fitness standards test.
He was immediately transported to Brigham City Community Hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to the U of U Hospital Neuro Critical Care Unit.
As Vincent underwent brain surgery, a second aneurysm was discovered. He was in critical condition at that time.
At 8:45 p.m. Saturday, BCPD posted an update on Vincent’s condition, saying he is stable and heavily sedated.
According to the update, doctors “infused some platelets and put in an intercranial monitor. The next few days there are concerns of the brain swelling, which can be very unpredictable.”
Visitors will not be allowed for at least three to five days.
“Everyone who knows Dennis knows what an amazing man he is,” BCPD posted. “We love him and want him back healthy and whole again. We ask that you please keep Dennis and his family in your prayers during this extraordinarily difficult time.”
More than 300 people responded to the Facebook posts with expressions of love and prayers for Vincent’s full recovery, and well-wishes were still coming in throughout the evening.
