HERRIMAN, Utah, Oct. 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police Department officials have released the cause of death of a man found deceased in Butterfield Canyon.
It has been determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma, said UPD Lt. Brian Lohrke in a news release Friday afternoon. It is unknown what caused the trauma or if a weapon was involved.
The body of Alejandro Reyes, 26, was found Wednesday inside a long box, which had been wrapped in heavy plastic and left in the canyon.
Investigators called to the scene suspected the box contained either the body of a human or a large animal. The box was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office, where Reyes was identified as the victim.
His name was released Thursday evening, after his family had been notified of his death.
The estimated date of Reyes’ death has not yet been determined. Reyes had last been seen by his family on Oct. 1, and had been reported missing on Oct. 5, according to a news release from Lohrke.
Police announced Friday morning that a pickup truck belonging to Reyes has been located, and that it is being held for evidence.
This case is being investigated as a criminal homicide. UPD Detectives are asking the public for any information related to the death. Anyone who has information is asked to call the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.
