PROVO, Utah, Aug. 17, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — BYU Football announced Monday it was cancelling Cougar Kickoff, scheduled for tonight, due to poor air quality.
“Due to poor air quality conditions, tomorrow night’s Cougar Kickoff has been cancelled,” BYU’s tweet says.
“This comes out of an abundance of caution, wanting to keep our student-athletes in the best possible health, with many BYU sports nearing the start of fall competition.
“We are announcing the cancellation now because of the need to alert vendors and those who may be traveling from a long distance to plan accordingly.”
Utah’s air quality has been some of the worst in the nation in recent weeks, due in large part to local and western wildfires.
Cougar Kickoff was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
