LOGAN CANYON, Utah, Sept. 28, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man whose body was found Friday in Logan Canyon.
The dead man was Logan resident Dennis Shaw, 77. His body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy to determine the cause of death. Several search warrants have been or are currently being executed by detectives on two residences and several vehicles.
Dennis Shaw’s son, 33-year-old Clayton Shaw, has been booked into jail.
“Clayton was booked into the Cache County Jail on charges of homicide. This case is still being investigated, and no other details will be released at this time.
“Detectives are asking the public who may have any information concerning this case or the victim and suspect as well as Clayton’s black BMW and the victim’s white Ford F 150 truck to contact detectives.”
The parking lot at Franklin Basin is now open, “and we very much appreciate the public’s patience with our office as we work through this investigation,” the CCSO statement says.
“Information can be left on our webpage TIP Line or by telephone at 435-755-1100 or through this link, which can remain anonymous.”
Clayton Shaw’s arrest documents say Dennis Shaw’s body was found with stab wounds to the chest from a small, bladed object.
There was evidence the murder had happened elsewhere, and Dennis Shaw had been dragged to the site, next to the Franklin Basin snowmobile parking lot. The site was about 25 miles from the elder Shaw’s residence.
A domestic violence call involving Clayton had come to dispatch on Sept. 15 from his female roommate, the probable cause statement says.
On Sept. 17, a resident of Dennis Shaw’s house, identified in police documents as D.S., called dispatch and said Clayton was at the residence, “and was having a mental crisis,” and he took the person’s phone and “threatened him by saying “I’m trying to find a way to kill you.”
Law enforcement officials were able to locate Clayton Shaw by pinging his phone, and reportedly found him with a bloody knife in his possession. Dennis Shaw’s dog was also found in his son’s possession.
A substance believed to be blood was found in Clayton’s Shaw’s trunk, and bloody finger prints were found near the bumper.
Gephardt Daily will have more information as the case develops.
