CACHE COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Cache County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of possible flooding this weekend temperatures as rapidly warm up and heavy rain moves in.
A Facebook post Thursday evening said the National Weather Service predicts that temperatures will increase to 40 degrees Sunday through Monday, and it’s likely there will be an inch of rain in a 12-hour period.
“This amount of rain and snow melt during a short period of time on frozen ground could cause flooding,” the post states. “If you have had problems in your area with flooding in the past, it is recommended that you make necessary preparations on your property.”
The Division of Emergency Management recommends sandbagging and culvert cleaning, especially for those who live in areas prone to flooding.
“In addition to possible flooding throughout the valley, Monday afternoon we could see a quick rise of water levels in the rivers,” Sheriff Chad Jensen said, in the post. “The cold swift water can be very dangerous. Please exercise caution and stay safe.”
