LAYTON, Utah, Jan. 24, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 22-year-old man from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has been charged with luring a Layton girl after the two met on social media.
Calgary officials say the man and the Layton 14-year-old were involved in sexually explicit conversations, and the suspect coerced the teen into sending compromising photos.
The Layton girl’s parents found the chats and called police, according to Alberta law enforcement officials.
Layton Police investigators in May of 2016 contacted ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation unit in Canada. ALERT stands for Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.
The suspect, Aaron Scott Jovanovic, was arrested Jan. 19 at his residence, in Calgary. He was charged with making child pornography, possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography, and making explicit materials available to a minor.
Police also seized the suspect’s electronic devices for further analysis.
“The internet has given sexual offenders the ability to reach across local and country lines to contact and abuse our children worldwide,” said Layton Police Detective Bryan Purdy, who was quoted in a Alberta Police news release.
“It is through the corroboration of agencies who are working across international borders that can make these arrests, and bring closure to the victims wherever they live,” Purdy said.
