SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 22, 2016 (Gephardt Daily)  — The Salt Lake City Fire Department says a man died in a large house fire in the hills above the Utah State Capitol Sunday morning.

The two-alarm fire was called into dispatchers at about 1:40 a.m.

By the time fire crews arrived, the back of the multi-story home at 581 N. East Capitol St. was engulfed in flames.

Fire crews worked quickly to bring the blaze under control, but later found a deceased man upon making their way inside.

The victim has been identified 72-year-old Utah businessman John Williams, co-founder of Gastronomy Inc.

The Salt Lake Police Department is calling his death suspicious and investigating the case as a “homicide/arson” case.

One man has been taken into custody in connection with the fire. Investigators say he was known to William’s, but would not say how.

There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will provide more information as it becomes available.
