MORGAN COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Multiple agencies responded to the report of a serious crash Saturday night after a group of young people in a BMW sedan had a sudden encounter with a moose on Interstate 84.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Brandon Whitehead said the BMW was on I-84 near mile marker 91 when the collision occurred.

“A car full of juveniles was westbound on horseshoe bend, and there was a wild moose in the road,” Whitehead told Gephardt Daily. “They hit it and the moose went into the car through the windshield.”

The BMW went off the road to the right and then down where the shoulder of the road gradually slopes, about 100 to 150 feet, into the basin.

Although both the moose was killed and the car totaled, the vehicle’s occupants had only minor injuries.

“There were possibly four juveniles in the car and at least one was transported (to the hospital),” Whitehead said. “Only two required any medical attention.”

He described their injuries as mostly scrapes, bruises and cuts.

No names were released, and Whitehead wasn’t sure if the car’s occupants were male or female.

He knew they were very fortunate, though.

“It was not too serious, considering this could have had a much worse outcome,” he said. “They were really very lucky.”

In addition to UHP, personnel from Morgan County and Mountain Green responded to the crash scene.
