LINDON, Utah, Dec. 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is in the hospital Monday after running into the garage of an elderly couple’s home in Lindon.
According to Lindon Police Chief Cody Cullimore, the accident happened at approximately 8 a.m. in the area of 140 East 400 North, when a vehicle traveling eastbound missed the bend in the road and went straight into the side of a home.
“The homeowners are in their 80s and were sleeping at the time of the accident,” Cullimore said. “It was a very scary ordeal for them.”
Cullimore said the driver of the car, a young adult male, was taken by ambulance to the hospital in serious condition with head lacerations.
“There does appear to be some level of impairment,” Cullimore said. “We are currently waiting on a search warrant needed to make a blood draw to make that determination.”
Structural engineers are on scene because the home is made of non-reinforced brick. There are no other supports.
“The garage is seriously damaged and may be a total loss, but they are trying to figure out the best possible way repair it,” Cullimore said. “There is also damage to the couple’s vehicle that was parked in the garage.”
Cullimore said a citation is expected and they will wait for the results of the blood draw to determine if additional charges will be added.
