CEDAR CITY, Utah, Dec. 12, 2019 (Gepahrdt Daily) — A Cedar City man was arrested after allegedly assaulting two police officers during a domestic violence call Thursday.

Officers were called to a domestic in progress at a residence in Cedar City in the early hours of Thursday morning, said the statement.

“Officers arrived and were told by a male that his roommate was intoxicated and assaulted his girlfriend,” the arresting officer wrote in the statement. “Officers made contact with the male suspect, later identified as Antwaun Rainey. Antwaun immediately became aggressive with officers and mad we were there. I tried to get Antwaun to tell me his name and he would not. I told him he had to give me his name and he would not.”

As officers attempted Rainey into custody, the suspect began backing up towards his room, the statement said.

“I commanded him to stop, but he took off running towards his room,” the statement said. “Officers gave chase. As we followed Antwaun into his room as he tried shutting the door on me. When he did this the door hit me in the shoulder. I pushed through the door and tried to grab onto Antwaun where he swung at me with his fist and elbowed the other officer in the jaw. Antwaun then tried pushing me backwards out of the room.”

The arresting officer told Rainey he would use his Taser if the suspect did not comply. The suspect did not follow instructions and the officer used his Taser on him on Rainey, who was then taken into custody without incident.

“I could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from Antwaun’s person,” the statement said. “He also had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.”

Officers interviewed witnesses and the female victim at the scene.

“It was determined that Antwaun pushed his girlfriend to the ground where sustained a visible abrasion type injury to her shoulder and a knot on the side of her head,” the statement said.

Rainey was booked into Iron County Jail with his bail set at $6,000.
