CEDAR CITY, Utah, Oct. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An 11-year-old girl in Cedar City was approached by a stranger Thursday evening and was asked to get into his car, police say.

The incident occurred at 7 p.m. Thursday near Robbers Roost and Paradise Canyon, Cedar City police said in a social media post.

“An 11-year-old child was approached by a white male in an older white sedan,” the statement says. “The male was reportedly in his 60s. He asked the child to get inside, and the child ran to her home, which was nearby.”

The girl reported seeing a similar vehicle at her school earlier this week.

This incident serves as a good opportunity to review safety guidelines with your children when you send them off to school or when they walk anywhere away from home. Remember to have them walk in groups and not stop for anyone who pulls alongside them. Remind them to never get into a car with a stranger.”

Police will continue to patrol around schools and the walking routes children take home, the statement says.
