CENTERVILLE, Utah, March 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 5-year-old girl on her way to school in Centerville was struck by an SUV Friday morning, and was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital.
The child, identified as Charlotte Healey, was transported in critical condition. She was on her way to Reading Elementary School, 360 W. 2025 North, when she was hit, a statement from the Centerville Police Department says.
“The victim apparently ran out into the road into the path of the Suburban and was run over,” the statement says.
“The driver of the Suburban did not see the child, but heard a thud upon hitting the child. The accident was witnessed by the older sister who ran home to tell her mom.”
An off-duty deputy/paramedic who lives in this neighborhood was on scene giving medical attention prior to the arrival of on-duty responders, the statement says.
Centerville Police Lt. Zan Robinson told Gephardt Daily that the girl’s leg was broken as a result of being struck. She was conscious but not alert on the scene, he said.
Robinson said Friday morning that it was too soon to know the full extent of the child’s injuries.
The SUV driver, Farmington resident Leigh Albertsen, remained at the scene, and she was cooperating with police, Robinson said.
The Centerville Police statement said officials are hoping for the best outcome for all involved:
“We are hoping and praying for Charlotte, her family, and others affected.”
