BOUNTIFUL, Utah, June 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A child is recovering after being found unresponsive in the competition pool at Davis County Recreation Center on Monday afternoon.
South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett told Gephardt Daily officials received a call of a possible drowning in the pool at the rec center, at 550 N. 200 West in Bountiful, at approximately 4 p.m.
The female juvenile was brought out of the pool by lifeguards, Bassett said. She was unresponsive at first, but became semi-responsive after lifeguards administered CPR.
Crews then took over CPR and the juvenile was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in serious condition. She was conscious when she was transported, Bassett said.
Bassett said it’s not clear at this stage exactly what occurred before the girl was found unresponsive.
The girl’s parents were apparently not at the pool, Bassett said, and Bountiful Police Department made contact with them and are speaking to them to figure out the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Bassett added the lifeguards did an “outstanding job” getting the girl out of the pool and beginning CPR.
The child has not been identified because of her juvenile status.
