WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 23, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — West Valley Police and Fire Departments came together Wednesday to bring the Christmas spirit to a family that had all of its presents stolen.

Police said the family’s car was left running in the driveway Monday morning around 5:30 a.m. The vehicle was stolen with all of the Christmas presents the mother had purchased for her children inside it.

West Valley City Police spokesperson Roxeanne Vainuku said the vehicle’s owner reported it stolen, then later saw her vehicle in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store located at 3140 S. Redwood Road. The car’s owner attempted to block the vehicle to try to prevent the suspect from leaving; however, the suspect sped off, hitting a parked car in the process.

WVC Police responded to the scene. West Valley City Fire also responded due to stress and anxiety symptoms experienced by the vehicle owner.

A press release from the police department said: “Upon gathering information from the vehicle owner, the West Valley City Fire and Police departments decided to team up to help replace the family’s stolen Christmas gifts. With the financial assistance of the West Valley City Police Department Giving Tree program, members of the West Valley City Police Community Response Unit and members of West Valley City Fire will go shopping Wednesday morning to purchase Christmas gifts for the family’s 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son.”

The gifts were purchased Wednesday morning and later wrapped at the WVC Fire Station before delivery to the family.
