CLEARFIELD, Utah, March 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people are in critical condition after a four-vehicle crash in Clearfield Monday morning.
The incident occurred in the area of 300 N. 1000 West at approximately 7 a.m., according to a news release from Clearfield City Police Department.
“A few minutes prior to the accident the Clinton City Police Department attempted to stop a stolen 1995 Chevy custom van,” the news release said. “The vehicle was reported to the Ogden City Police Department. Initially, the stolen vehicle stopped in a driveway of a home in Clinton and then fled the area when law enforcement attempted to communicate with the driver.”
Clinton Police Department officers then pursued the stolen vehicle, which entered into Clearfield City at 800 N. 1000 West. The stolen vehicle driver failed to stop at a red light at 300 N. 1000 West and collided with a white 1999 GMC Sierra flatbed truck driven by an adult male.
The GMC Sierra truck collided with a red 2012 Honda Civic, driven by an adult female. The stolen vehicle also collided with a 2002 Buick LeSabre, driven by an adult male.
The stolen Chevy van was occupied by four adults; a female driver, a male front seat passenger, and a male and female in the rear passenger area. The female driver and the male front seat passenger were transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The rear female passenger was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The male rear passenger was taken into custody for a probation violation.
The male driver of the Buick LeSabre was also transported with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda and the GMC Sierra received medical treatment on scene.
The Clinton Police Department will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the vehicle pursuit and the possession of the stolen vehicle, with the assistance of the Utah Highway Patrol, the news release said.
Criminal charges related to the traffic accident are pending due to the ongoing investigation.
