WEST JORDAN, Utah, Oct. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence Friday night after she clipped a Toyota pickup truck traveling north on 4000 West and then crashed her own car into a brick wall.
Both vehicles were northbound at about 7:27 p.m., with the pickup in the right-hand lane near 8380 South, and the passenger car a considerable distance behind.
Dash-cam video taken by a passing driver and obtained by Gephardt Daily, shows the white car passing traffic by going north in the southbound lane, narrowly missing an oncoming car, and then clipping the driver’s side of the pickup truck while still going north in the southbound lane.
The impact was enough to send the truck to the right shoulder, while the white passenger car hurtled to the left and continued down the road until it crashed into a brick wall on private property.
West Jordan Police Sgt. James Kangas told Gephardt Daily the woman was taken into custody and transported to the hospital to be evaluated. Her condition wasn’t currently available.
He said she had a 5-year-old child in the car with her, but the child was properly restrained and wasn’t injured. Kangas said the child is now with family members.
The people in the pickup truck did not need to be transported and went to the hospital in a personal vehicle, Kangas said.
