COALVILLE, Utah, Jan. 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Hundreds of pilot lights in Coalville are being re-lit Friday afternoon after a loss of service, and a warming center has been set up in the high school for those still without heat.

Coalville Mayor Trevor Johnson told Gephardt Daily that 60 Questar technicians are going door to door to the 590 customers affected, re-lighting pilot lights.

Questar Gas alerted residents at 10 a.m. Friday that it was working on the issue with a message on the Summit County website.

“We are responding to reports of lost gas service in the Coalville area,” the notice said. “Residents north of 180 South Main Street are affected.”

Summit County then tweeted that Questar Gas would be repairing a pressure regulator Friday, which necessitated individually shutting off all 590 gas meters.

The main valve was successfully repaired by 3:45 p.m., according to a tweet.

The estimated time for total restoration is still 10 p.m. tonight, to give Questar time to go to every home. A warming center has been set up at North Summit High School gym, at 111 E. 100 South. Area residents can keep warm and receive hot beverages and snacks from the Utah Red Cross.

Johnson said that he is delighted that gas would be restored imminently.

“Everybody has really jumped in to get this figured out,” Johnson said. “The city staff went door to door to make sure everyone’s needs were met, including those who aren’t on social media. This was really the best outcome available.”

Residents are being asked to keep a small slow stream of cold water in their sinks until heat is restored.

The National Weather Service says the high in Coalville today is 13 degrees, and the overnight low is -4 degrees.

Anyone with questions is asked to contact Questar Gas at 1-800-323-5517.
