FLAMING GORGE, Utah, June 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Colorado man has set the new catch-and-release state record for lake trout at Flaming Gorge.
A Facebook post from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said Matt Smiley caught and released a 48-inch lake trout at Flaming Gorge last month.
“He’s now the current catch-and-release state record holder for lake trout,” the post said.
The last record was set in 1988 when a 45-and-1/8-inch lake trout was caught, also at Flaming Gorge, by Curt Bilbey.
That trout weighed 51 pounds and 8 ounces.
