SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Comic book icon Stan Lee has canceled his scheduled appearances this weekend at Comic Con’s FanX event in Salt Lake City.

Lee was scheduled to give a panel presentation, sign autographs and pose for photos with fans during the two-day event at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

But on Friday morning, it was announced that Lee would miss day one due to illness. Then, on Friday afternoon, a notice on the Salt Lake Comic Con FanX Facebook page stated that Lee would be unable to attend at all.

“We are so sorry to announce that Stan Lee will not be able to attend #FanX17 due to health reasons,” the notice says. “After a second visit to the doctor this morning, he was advised to rest and recuperate rather than risk getting worse. We wish him a speedy recovery and though we are disappointed, we want what is best for Stan, our dear friend.”

The page also instructed those who had purchased autograph or photo opportunities on how to get a refund or credit toward another FanX purchase.

Lee also canceled a fan event in New York City last weekend due to health issues, reportedly a case of the flu.

Lee, 94, has worked as a comic-book writer, editor, publisher, media producer, television host, actor, and former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

He appeared at the first Salt Lake Comic Con event in 2014, and hailed it as “the greatest comic con in the world.”
