Construction worker hospitalized after falling 40 feet down elevator shaft at SLC Airport

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 50-year-old man has been hospitalized after falling 40 feet down an elevator shaft, which is part of the current construction at Salt Lake City International Airport, on Wednesday morning.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Volmer said in a tweet that the incident occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m.

The man, an employee of Holder-Big D Construction, was transported to an area hospital. His condition has not yet been released.

Holder-Big D is responsible for the current Airport Redevelopment Program, previously referred as the Terminal Redevelopment Program, which is expected to span 10 years and cost approximately $3.1 billion.

Volmer said in the tweet the cause of the incident is under investigation.
