COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, May 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Cottonwood Heights Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam.

A news release from police officials Thursday afternoon said residents have reported receiving phone calls in the past week from what appears to be CHPD claiming that there are outstanding warrants for the person’s arrest and asking for money.

People that reported the scam said that the actual police phone number, which is 801-944-7100, shows on the caller ID.

“The calls come from someone claiming to be from Cottonwood Heights police and use the fabricated warrants spoof to ask for money over the phone,” the new release said.

“These calls are 100 percent false. The Cottonwood Heights Police Department will never ask for money for any reason. If an individual does have warrants, we will contact you in person.”

Anyone who has received these calls, or who has any questions, is encouraged to contact the actual CHPD number at 801-944-7100.
