COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Dec. 14, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — An alleged carjacking that took place in Murray Monday morning is being linked to an evacuation at a Cottonwood Heights apartment complex later in the day.

The reported carjacking occurred at 6352 S. Crystal River Drive at around 7:15 a.m. A woman was getting into her vehicle when a man approached her with a silver handgun and ordered her to get out of the car, according to Sgt. Roy Howford with Murray Police.

The suspect left in the vehicle, running over the victim’s foot in the process.

A suspicious circumstance was then reported at Santa Fe Apartments in Cottonwood Heights, 1550 E. Fort Union Blvd., later in the day.  At about 2:10 p.m., Cottonwood Heights police tweeted the Murray carjacking suspect or suspects were tracked to those apartments, and that police and United Fire were recovering weapons and evaluating chemicals.

Officers discovered a suspicious material in one of the buildings, which resulted in evacuations. Cottonwood Heights Police later confirmed that material was fertilizer, and therefore not dangerous.
