DAVIS COUNTY, UTAH – JUNE 18, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) A traffic stop by Davis County Sheriff’s office yielded a much more serious situation.

According to the probable cause statement, Deputy Christopher Pope pulled over a vehicle driven my Jayson Sisam, 42, around 200 S. Highway 89 in North Salt Lake around 6:45 a.m. due to not being able to see the temporary permit that had been placed on the car.

The driver, who the officer said appeared agitated and showed signs of drug use, told Pope that he did not have any identification on him but gave the officer a name and date of birth but did not know his social security number.

The officer observed a female occupant, identified as Tenesha Cole Simmons, 28, in the back seat of the car next to a small child lying on her side in her booster seat. The officer noticed the child was pale and shaking and covered with dirt, with blood around her nose and mouth.

At that time the officer gave Sisam a field sobriety test, which he failed, and was subsequently placed under arrest. It was then that Sisam told him that he had given the officer his father-in-law’s name and DOB. Once Pope was given the correct name and DOB, he found several outstanding warrants and a suspended drivers license.

Officer Pope then turned his attention to Simmons, who also had several outstanding warrants for her arrest. Upon further investigation of their vehicle, the officer found a cigar container containing meth in a purse that was sitting next to the child.

After the officer had placed both Simmons and Sisam under arrest, the child was then taken to the Sheriff’s Office where the Department of Child Protective Services came and took custody of the child.

The reason for the dirt and blood is not immediately known, the child is now under their care.

Sisam is being held at the Davis County Jail and faces charges of enhanced DUI, giving false information to an officer, driving on suspension, and child endangerment.

Simmons is also being held at the Davis County Jail under charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, child endangerment, possession of someone else’s ID, and possession of stolen property.
