SALTL LAKE COUNTY, Utah, May 10, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake County Sheriff Search and Rescue Crews and a Life Flight helicopter responded to the remote location of a climber who had been hiker after a rock, about the size of a large kitchen appliance, came loose and rolled on top of him.

The victim and a climbing partner were in the Little Cottonwood Canyon Gate Buttress area, near a climbing area known as “Certain Death.”

“Two climbers were looking for new routes in the Waterfront area above ‘Certain Death,'” says a statement published on Salt Lake County Sheriff’s SAR’s Facebook page.

“One climber had pulled off a large rock the size of a refrigerator that rolled over the top of him,” the statement says. “Two ground teams were dispatched to find the injured party and try to access them.

“Because of the location and nature of the injuries Life Flight was called and was able to hoist the patient off the mountain.”

Crews were called out just before 4 p.m., the statement says, and the operation lasted about 90 minutes.

No information was shared regarding the victim’s condition.
