SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake fire crews battled a blaze at a used auto parts store Monday morning.

The incident occurred at Premium Auto Parts at 1725 N. Chicago St., Salt Lake City Fire Department Captain Tony Stowe told Gephardt Daily.

“We received several calls from passersby of reports of a fire in the area,” Stowe said. “It appears to be a salvage wrecking yard. Unknown cause at this time but on arrival crews did have substantial smoke and large flame activity.”

He said the fire was stepped up to a second alarm to get more resources on scene.

“We did have a partial roof collapse on the south corner of the structure; at that point in time we made the decision to go defensive on this,” Stowe added. “That means that we’re not going to send any firefighters inside the structure just due to the nature of the destruction of the structure itself.”

Fire crews were able to get a quick knockdown and are still on scene performing salvage and overhaul as of 8:30 a.m., Stowe said. He said crews will be on scene for some time.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
