SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 1, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters knocked down a residential fire near Salt Lake City’s east bench Wednesday afternoon.
Battalion Chief Kyle Lavender, Salt Lake City Fire, told reporters at the scene that the residence, near 2665 E. 2100 South, Salt Lake City, was spotted with smoke rising out of both the chimney and roof.
“We arrived with three engines and a ladder,” Lavender said. “The initial crew was able to advance a hoseline into the interior and find the location of the fire.”
Due to “the stubbornness of the location of the fire,” Lavender said, “two additional engines were requested for manpower and, based on those resources, we were able to have the fire out in 15 or 20 minutes.”
The fire location was between the first and second floors of the residence, Lavender said. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but investigators were on scene, trying to narrow it down from evidence.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire, Lavender said, and efforts to locate them were underway. No injuries were sustained by firefighters, but crews were rotated in and out due to the cold temperatures, he said.
