WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, June 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire near an apartment complex burned about a quarter-acre to a half-acre of a dry field Monday, but was extinguished by West Valley City firefighters who were in the area.

Roxeanne Vainuku, public information officer for WVC Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that fire crews were on their way to another call shortly after 8 p.m. when reports started coming in about a field fire near 3300 South and 1200 West, which is the location of the Village at Rivers Edge apartments.

Crews diverted to the field fire and quickly pushed it back, getting it under control within 10 minutes, Vainuku said. The fire was completely extinguished within 20 minutes. No one was injured in this fire and no structures were threatened.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation, Vainuku said.

She asked that people be careful and remember that the high temperatures Utah is experiencing now are leaving many areas, especially fields and trails, extremely dry.
