Crews fight wildfire at top of Birch Creek Canyon

BIRCH CREEK CANYON, Utah, Aug. 19, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A wildfire at the top of Birch Creek Canyon, east of Smithfield in Cache County, was reported at 4:16 p.m. Monday, and smoke is now visible from the valley.

Officials said the fire is on Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest land in the Logan Ranger District, and wildland crews are handling it.

According to information from UWCNF, the fire has burned an estimated quarter-acre in needle and leaf litter, and is suspected to be human-caused.

UWCNF tweeted Monday night that a Weber Basin Job Corps crew will hike up on Tuesday.
