WEST JORDAN, Utah, Dec. 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews were at the scene of a garage fire that was threatening a home Tuesday night.

West Jordan Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Holmes told Gephardt Daily the call came in at about 8 p.m. A homeowner at 8324 S. Mascaro Way reported a fire in his house.

When firefighters arrived, they found the garage heavily involved and the fire had started to extend into the home.

“After 15 to 20 minutes, we were able to knock it down pretty quick, after making sure everybody was out of the house,” Holmes said.

Everyone evacuated the structure and no one was injured.

Holmes said the fire department brought in an additional engine to assist because “at first, the fire looked pretty impressive.”

“A little overkill is better sometimes, so we can get on top of it as quick as we can,” he added.

Holmes also commented on the wintry conditions in which the crews were working.

“Right now,” he said, “we’re dealing with quite a bit of ice. A lot of water was put down, so we’ve got slip and trip hazards as we do clean-up.”

Holmes said the cause of the fire is under investigation, and he didn’t have an immediate estimate of damages. He noted that there was a burned-out car inside the garage.
