SANDY, Utah, June 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews rescued an injured hiker who fell about 30 feet near the Rocky Mouth Waterfall on Thursday night.

Search and rescue crews were called out about 9:20 p.m. to the Sandy waterfall to assist the injured hiker.

“A hiker and his friend were scrambling in the cliffs above the falls when he slipped and fell 30 feet resulting in several injuries,” Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue stated on social media Friday.

“The gully he was in was very steep, and filled with loose rocks requiring extra care to prevent any injures to team members and patient,” the post says.

A rope system was set up, and the injured hiker was lowered 300 feet to the stream, where he was carried out to an awaiting ambulance. The extent of his injuries was not disclosed.

All teams were off the mountain by 1 a.m., the post says.

The Sandy City Fire Department also responded to assist.
