COPPERTON, Utah, May 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire investigators have discovered the cause of a fire Sunday at a wholesale nursery in Copperton.

The spontaneous combustion of an organic material Coconut Coir has been found to be responsible for the fire, which started at about 5:30 p.m. at Progressive Plants Inc., at 10252 S. Bacchus Highway. A large plume of heavy smoke was visible from across the valley.

Unified Fire Authority spokesman Dave Ulibarri said a large pile of pots, soil, wood chips and rubbish had caught fire.

A 20-strong crew of firefighters was able to extinguish the blaze quickly. Asphalt around the fire helped to keep it from spreading.

No injuries were reported. The nursery remains closed for the day.
