HURRICANE, UTAH – August 4, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has released the dash cam footage of a chase through several southern Utah cities that ended when the suspect crashed into a Hurricane City police car.
According to Washington County Sheriff’s Detective Nate Abbott, the chase started when Washington County a deputy observed a Dodge Charger pulled over to the side of SR-17 around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. “The officer decided to turn around to check the car when the driver of the car turned on his lights and took off,” Abbott said. “The officer then proceeded to follow him and that is when the driver accelerated to high speeds.”
Deputies said the chase took the officer through Toquerville, La Verkin, and then into Hurricane, where the suspect ended up in a residential area. “The driver ran through stop signs and drove recklessly at speeds in excess of 100 mph until it collided with a Hurricane City Police officer’s vehicle at an intersection.”
The suspect, Michael Ryan Dalby, 32, of Bluffdale, Utah, was then taken into custody. Deputies were able to determine the 2014 Charger he was driving was stolen out of South Salt Lake a few days prior.
Dalby received medical clearance at the local hospital and was booked into the Washington County Jail. He’s charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, DUI of alcohol and/or drugs, evading, reckless driving, and a probation violation.
The officer involved in the accident received minor injuries and is doing well as of Tuesday.
