OGDEN, UTAH – August 25, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A woman who was going the wrong way on I-15 ended up rolling her vehicle, running from troopers and fighting with five officers before finally being taken into custody.
Around 1:30 p.m. yesterday, dispatch received a call reporting there was a wrong way driver going northbound in the southbound lanes near 31st Street on I-15.
When UHP Trooper Mark Shepherd responded he found 32-year-old female, Natalie Peterson, driving in the right emergency lane from 31st Street in Ogden. Peterson refused to stop for Shephard, driving in circles and zig-zags across the highway as she continued to drive against traffic.
Shephard decided she was huge risk and took evasive action to avoid any collision with innocent motorists. The trooper collided with Peterson from behind, knocking off her bumper but she kept driving so he decided to try again, this time performing a pit maneuver. The impact caused her vehicle to overturn before coming to a rest blocking the left lane.
Peterson got out of the car and attempted to flee on foot. She tried to get into three other vehicles before being tackled by UHP Trooper Mark Shepherd. Peterson repeatedly resisted arrest and fought with multiple troopers before she was taken into custody.
Peterson was transported to Ogden Regional with minor injuries.
Drug use is suspected and Peterson, a parolee, after she was released from the hospital, she was transported back to the Utah State Prison for various parole violations.
According to Utah’s Right to Know website, Peterson has a history of similar charges from 2011 and 2012 including failing to stop at command of police, assault on an officer and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury. She was found guilty in March of 2012 and sentenced to prison.
