CLINTON, Utah, Dec. 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Clinton City police have released additional details about two fatal shootings on Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, at a Clinton residence.
The first shooting victim, Keith Miller, 40, was an invited guest at the residence, in the area of 2600 W. 2250 North. He was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The second man shot was Jacob Pluim, 35, a resident who police say shot Miller when the gathering concluded in the early hours of Nov. 28, and Miller attempted to leave.
“At that time, Mr. Pluim confronted him (Miller) and fired multiple shots, fatally wounding him.
“In response to this initial incident, another adult male, who had not been involved up to that point, armed himself with the intent to protect himself and others inside the home,” the Clinton City Police statement says.
“He attempted to communicate with Mr. Pluim. Due to Mr. Pluim’s actions during this interaction, the male ultimately fired shots, resulting in Mr. Pluim’s death.”
Multiple witnesses inside the residence confirmed details, which also were confirmed by evidence at the scene, the police statement says.
“This case was reviewed by the Davis County Attorney’s Office, which declined to file criminal charges against the adult male,” the CCPD statement says. It added that there was no prior police involvement at the residence and no ongoing threat to the public.
The identity of the second male shooter, who is believed to have acted in self-defense, will not be released at this time, the release says.
“The Clinton City Police Department and the City of Clinton extend their sincere condolences to the families and invidviduals affected by this tragic incident,” the police statement says, adding that the department members “appreciate the community’s support and understanding during this very difficult time.”
