CLEARFIELD, Utah, Dec. 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old father from Clearfield was arrested Monday after his 7-week-old son died from injuries consistent with blunt force trauma Saturday, police say.

Clint Corydon Nokes was booked into Davis County Jail on suspicion of child abuse homicide, Clearfield Police Department Assistant Chief Kelly Bennett told Gephardt Daily.

Bennett said that on Friday just after 4:15 p.m., the Clearfield Police Department was notified that the infant was unconscious and not breathing. Officers arrived and immediately started performing CPR on the child.

The infant was transported by medical personnel to a local hospital in extremely critical condition, then flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The initial investigation indicated the infant had signs and symptoms of physical abuse consistent with blunt force trauma.

The infant died Saturday at approximately 1:30 a.m.

“It is believed that the father caused the non-accidental and fatal injuries,” Bennett said.

There are no other children in the home. The infant’s mother, who also lives in the residence, is cooperating with the investigation, and no charges have been filed against her at this time.

Nokes is currently being held without bail.

The Davis County Attorney’s Office will review the case and file the official criminal charges.

Other agencies that assisted with the investigation are Davis County Sheriff’s Office Paramedics, North Davis Fire District, and the Office of the Medical Examiner.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
