MANTUA, Utah, May 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Davis County man died Sunday at a Box Elder County campsite after jumping out of a tree and falling into a ravine, according to Box Elder County Sheriff officials.

Paul Howard, 49, reportedly was disturbing other campers in the Lower Doc Flats area, near Mantua. Box Elder County Sheriff Kevin Potter said witnesses reported that Howard was yelling and “acting intoxicated.”

BECSO deputies arrived at about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, and tried to talk to Howard, who was on a mountainside. Howard ran from them, climbed a tree and “intentionally” jumped from it, the deputies reported.

Howard fell about 100 feet, into a ravine. His body was recovered by a search and rescue crew.

Howard’s city of residence in Davis County has not been released.
