DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 3, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Davis County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a surge in property crimes.

“Dozens of property crimes were reported in Davis County this past month,” said a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office. “We’ve seen guns, campers, ATV’s, bikes, you name it, taken from people who never expected to fall victim to a theft.”

Many of the recent thefts have been with property that was not properly secured, the post said.

“Many of these crooks work in numbers, providing ample opportunity to sweep an entire neighborhood of unlocked cars and open garages within minutes,” the post added. “These criminals use dark neighborhoods and the hours of 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to shield their identities.”

The post added: “The best way to proactively deter these thieves is to LOCK your cars and CLOSE your garages. ALWAYS place a lock on a hitch to prevent your favorite camper, jet ski or ATV from ending up in the hands of someone who didn’t pay for it.”
