CENTERVILLE, Utah, Sept. 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — More than 5,450 customers lost power in Davis County Monday morning after a fire at a substation in west Centerville.
Centerville police say most residents should now have their power back.
“Restoration of power is complete. There might be a few still out but the bulk of residence should have their power back on.”
The CPD’s first statement warned that all power was out to the affected customers.
“South Davis Metro Fire is on the scene, along with Centerville Police Department,” a police statement said. “The power is out throughout the city, so all traffic lights are out, including the school crosswalks. Traffic is a mess in the city, so now would be a good time to limit nonessential travel.”
That post urged people to “treat all nonfunctional traffic lights as 4 WAY STOPS. Please be extra mindful of kids walking to school this morning.”
A subsequent update said city traffic lights were beginning to come back online, “but the school crosswalk lights are still out.”
South Davis Fire also reported that the power outages are causing normal flare-offs to area refineries, so there is no need for witnesses to report seeing that smoke.
Gephardt Daily will share more information as updates as additional details become available.
