American Fork man dies after 400-foot fall in Dead Horse State Park

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah, April 11, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 22-year-old man from American Fork fell to his death Sunday in Dead Horse State Park in San Juan County.

Gary Nathan Abbott fell 400 feet at approximately 1:45 p.m., according to a news release from San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

Abbott had been camping in the area with friends, police said, though they did not say exactly where in the park the fall took place.

San Juan County deputies, San Juan County Search and Rescue personnel, with the assistance of the Utah DPS helicopter, were able to locate and extricate Abbott’s body at approximately 6 that night.

No criminal foul play is suspected. Abbott’s body was taken to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, per protocol.
