Dec. 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A petition has been started in an effort to keep the latest poster for the “Once Upon a Deadpool” movie from being “used or posted in any manner.”
And a petition also has been started to counter the “whiners” signing the first one and show support for the depiction of Deadpool as a quasi-religious figure.
One side, led by Cassidy Carter on change.org, points out that the poster “resembles the sacred picture of ‘The Second Coming,'” a painting that shows Jesus in a white robe, surrounded by angels.
By depicting the Deadpool character in a white robe, in the same position and similar surroundings, the poster constitutes a form of religious discrimination, the petition says.
“It is unknown if the picture was used to intentionally mock The Church of Jesus Christ, but it is clear it was copied from the original picture.”
According to the website, the petition was started four days ago, and by Tuesday night, more than 26,000 people had signed it.
The pro-poster petition, started by DFFFS (Deadpool Fans For Free Speech), says its purpose is “to show our support for Deadpool and for free speech.”
It was started Tuesday night and had 56 signers within three hours.
