DEER CREEK RESERVOIR, Utah, July 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Deer Creek Fire near Deer Creek Reservoir has more than doubled in size overnight and now measures 381 acres, officials said Thursday.

The wildfire was first reported at approximately noon Wednesday and rapidly burned 150 acres, according to a tweet from Utah Fire Info.

The tweet added that air support from the nearby Dollar Ridge Fire was being diverted to the new wildfire, which is south of Deer Creek Dam in Provo Canyon.

Utah Fire Info said in an update Thursday morning that 95 personnel are assigned to the fire. This includes three engines, one hotshot crew, one Type Two IA handcrew, two dozers and one helicopter

The fire was terrain and weather driven,” the update said. “Thunderstorms moved in around 4 p.m. and crews were pulled from the hill due to safety concerns. The fire received significant moisture from the storms.”

Thursday, fire managers are directing crews to limit the spread of fire on the north side, keep the fire off of U.S. Forest Service land, minimize the impact to private land, and apply direct line. Crews will begin to mop up as the day progresses.

Cascade Springs Road is closed to the public, from Midway to Cascade Springs.

Smoke will be visible from Heber City, Provo, and Park City areas, officials said.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
