WEBER COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 22, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men were killed in two separate officer-involved shootings in Weber County on Tuesday night, and the Ogden Police Department has released the name of a suspect killed.

Bartolo Justice Sambrano, 25, was shot at a parking garage at the Junction, Chief Randy Watt from Ogden Police Department stated during a press conference Wednesday.

Watt said Sambrano was a known gang member who was wanted on several felony warrants, and has a violent history in Utah and Idaho.

An Ogden police officer was patrolling the parking garage at The Junction at 313 E. 23rd St. when he came across two suspects “prowling around unoccupied parked vehicles,” according to a statement by Ogden PD.

The suspects ran while the officer called for backup.

Minutes later, one of the suspects was confronted by officers in the lower level of the parking structure.

“The suspect pointed a handgun at the officers. In response, the officers shot the suspect,” Ogden police said. “The suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Watt said that both officers fired their weapons but were not sure how many times Sambrano was struck.

A second suspect, Zachary Scott Clark, was taken into custody without incident, and interviewed before being released from police custody, Watt said. He was unarmed.

Watt said Sambrano and Clark were suspects in a Feb. 15 home invasion where shots were fired. Police were already searching for Sambrano so they could question him, and Clark was also investigated in connection with the home invasion, Watt said.

The officers involved were not harmed. One has been with the force for five years, and the other officer for three years, Watt said.

The first fatal shooting took place at a Texaco gas station in Roy at 4395 S. 1900 West just after 10 p.m.

Investigators say they were called to the scene with reports of a trespasser. Two Roy police officers responded, and moments later, witnesses report hearing at least two gunshots.

One man was fatally wounded in the gunfire, although the details of the shooting have yet to be released.

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has been called in to investigate both shootings, in accordance with police protocols surrounding officer-involved shootings, and body cam footage will be reviewed to glean a clearer picture of events.
