SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 28, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people are undergoing emergency surgery after being shot and wounded at a South Jordan house party early Thanksgiving morning.
The lone gunman remains at large.
South Jordan Police Lt. Matt Pennington told Gephardt Daily officers were called to a “chaotic” scene at 4654 Jordan Parkway about 2:30 a.m. with reports of a single gunshot. When police arrived they were startled to find three wounded victims inside the home.
Pennington said the adult victims were rushed to a local hospital with one of them suffering life-threatening injuries. The latter victim suffered between eight and 12 gunshots. The other two victims were shot once each; one in the arm, one in the torso.
Witnesses told investigators the shooting took place after a “disagreement” between the shooter and the victim that was critically injured and that gunman ran from the residence.
As of 5 a.m., the shooter remained at large, while police from multiple agencies, including West Jordan, West Valley City, Unified PD, Herriman, Riverton, South Salt Lake, joined South Jordan PD in setting up a wide containment effort in the surrounding neighborhood.
Pennington said police believe they know the shooter’s identity, but were unsure of his whereabouts. He said it was unknown if he escaped on foot or drove from the scene and advised nearby residents to keep an eye out for anything unusual in the event the suspect was still in the area.
Police have yet to determine the relationship between shooter and the victims.
It’s also not clear exactly what the altercation was about.
Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
