KAYSVILLE, Utah, March 31, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Kaysville firefighters and other crews are mopping up hot spots after fire destroyed a home in the 1100 South block of Sunset Drive late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

No one was injured in the overnight blaze.

The fire was first reported around 10:00 p.m. When fire crews arrived they found the home engulfed in smoke and flames.

A second alarm was called with an estimated 20 firefighters from Farmington FD, Layton FD, South Davis Metro Fire and North Davis FD responding to the scene.

Kaysville Fire Dept. Jayson Taylor told Gephardt Daily first responders were notified as they arrived no one was inside the home.

Due to the intensity of the blaze firefighters took up defensive positions and poured water on the burning structure for more than an hour before finally dousing the flames.

Taylor said the home was a total loss and confirmed it had been damaged in a fire four years earlier before being completely renovated.

He said he had heard unconfirmed reports a wood burning stove may have may have been the cause, but state fire investigators were just beginning to arrive.

Taylor asked people to avoid the area until emergency crews could secure the scene which would take hours.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
