SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 22, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Dick Van Dyke has canceled his Salt Lake City FanX appearance scheduled for next weekend, organizers say.

“We are sorry to announce that Dick Van Dyke is not able to travel to FanX at this time. He expresses his gratitude to all of those who continue to support him but, at almost 99 years of age, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he is able to do at this time.”

Van Dyke, who was scheduled to be an Emmy Awards presenter last Sunday, also did not make it to that appointment.

Van Dyke began his career as an entertainer on radio and television, in nightclubs, and on the Broadway stage. In 1960, he starred in the original production of Bye Bye Birdie, a role which earned him the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Carl Reiner then cast him as Rob Petrie on the CBS television sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961 to 1966, which made him a household name. He went on to star in the movie musicals Bye Bye Birdie (1963), Mary Poppins (1964), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968).

His IMDB acting projects list more than 80 credits, some of them series with more than 100 episodes. He also made dozens of guest appearances.

People going to FanX who have already purchased photo opportunity tickets with Van Dyke can register for a refund or swap the credit for another eligible FanX personality. Find more information at this link.

FanX24 runs from Thursday through Saturday at the Salt Palace Convention Center. It features nearly 150 guests, including such celebrities as Danny Glover, Susan Sarandon, LeVar Burton, Mel Gibson, Jonathan Frakes, Wil Wheaton, Melissa Gilbert, and Katey Sagal. To see more names, click here.
